Virtual Teacher's Workshops
Students aren't the only ones we miss. We love sharing our knowledge with teachers and educators. Join our education staff for 60 minute teachers workshops on topics of life, earth, and physical science. Each work shop is approximately 45 min in length with 15 minutes of question time. Live workshops are recorded and will be available on Flint RiverQuarium's YouTube channel.
Tue- 03/16/21- Teaching Evolution
Grade Recommendations- Middle & High SchoolGet tools to teach evolution effectively both online and in person! Don't just go through the standards for the sake of checking off boxes. Give students local, real-life examples and applications that depend on in-depth understandings of evolutionary concepts.
Wed- 03/17/21- Anthropogenic Effects on Wildlife
Grade Level Recommendations- 6th - 8th GradeGlobal wildlife populations are threatened by many human associated impacts. To better understand anthropogenic impacts on wildlife we investigate reasons for declines in amphibian populations. Amphibians are sensitive to environmental changes and therefore serve as a useful indicator species to evaluate future impacts of climate change on wildlife populations.
Tue- 03/23/21- Benefits of Citizen Science

Thu- 03/25/21- Georgia's Energy Profile
Grade Recommendations- Middle & High SchoolGet current, local data and information about energy production and consumption that can be used to teach both in person and online. Meet physical science, physics, chemistry, environmental, and biology standards in a 21st century 3D model. These activities are able to be differentiated to different levels. An emphasis will be placed on environmental equity that we do not always see in textbooks.
Tue- 04/06/21- Dollar Store Physical Science
Grade Recommendations- Middle & High SchoolDon't let the phrase "physical science" fool you into thinking these activities are limited to physical science classes. These fun and inexpensive instructional strategies can also be used in physics, chemistry, and biology classrooms. Ideas for differentiation are included that make these strategies applicable in any setting - even online!
Thu- 04/13/21- Geologic Time
Grade Recommendations- 3rd & UpWe will be discussing geologic history, how geologists find the age of fossils and rocks, the different kinds of rocks, and the rock cycle.
Thu- 04/15/21- Wonders of the Solar System
Grade Recommendation- 3rd & UpWe will be looking at our solar system, with a deeper dive into the many celestial bodies, the mechanisms behind orbits, and what we still don't know about our own galactic backyard.
Tue- 04/20/21- Environmental Law
